Oriflame Tender Care Balm

What the catalogue says:
Oriflame Tender Care is a totally versatile pot of magic, for the whole body. Based on honeycomb extract and vegetable oils. Relieves dryness and restores skin softness and suppleness. You can use it on sides of eyes, lips, face, cuticles or any area that is dry, sore or roughened to instantly restore softness. Tender Care can be used for cold sores, cuts, grazes, psoriasis, eczema and other skin conditions.

My experience:
This product has been my mommy’s ally for many years! It is very moisturizing & hydrating and can be used on lips as well as dry skin anywhere (e.g. elbows when they turn white and dry). It has been aptly called the "multi-purpose protecting balm". It comes in a cute little pink tub packed in baby pink paper box. The tub cap has a silver design which seems like a designer ‘O’ for Oriflame. This wonder balm can actually heal lips which are dry to the point of bleeding.  It does not have a gel consistency, in fact it is very fatty, and thus stays for a longer duration without drying up.

Main Ingredients: It contains 3 main active ingredients; mineral oil, beeswax and lanolin.

A variant: Oriflame Tender Care Lip Balm

The balm in the cute little tub became so popular, that the same product was launched in the shape of a lip balm. Same properties, much easier to apply on lips! Find all benefits of the legendary Tender Care in a rich lip balm. Special softening and protecting formula contains beeswax, olive oil and echium oil for softer, smoother lips.

Sample Application on Hand:

Price: Tender Care Balm - M.R.P. Rs. 199/- and Tender Care Lip Balm - M.R.P. Rs. 229/- (but both are available for huge discounts with consultants)

Positives:

  • Has a very smooth & light texture
  • Gets absorbed very quickly
  • Softens & smoothens skin instantly
  • It is non- greasy and does not make give you a feeling of oiliness, thus can be used even on the face without fear of skin breaking out
  • Truly multipurpose - can be used to treat dry or irritated skin anywhere, whether it’s around the eyes, elbows, feet, cracked heels or lips
  • Has no unnecessary fragrance (this might be a negative for some people)

Negatives:

  • The quantity is too less (it will last long enough though, because of it fatty consistency)
  • Little expensive for the quantity (be smart and stock it up during discount season)
  • Some people might not like tipping their fingers into a tub. Oriflame should come up with a tube version too. (the lip balm is easier to apply though)

Oriflame HairX Volume Boost Shampoo & Conditioner

Are you blessed with flat, thin, fine, limp hair? Well I am, and at one time or the other, I am sure that we – the wannabe Rapunzels, have tried to find ways to lift that flat hair and add some volume to it. The wide gamut of solutions ranges from getting the right haircut, trying to back-comb, to getting a root perm done. But unfortunately, each of these solutions comes with a plethora of disadvantages (root perm causing permanent damage to hair, back-combing leading to a receding hairline etc.!)

Enter, the Oriflame HairX Volume Boost range:
HairX Volume Boost Shampoo
HairX Volume Boost Hair Mask
HairX Volume Boost Leave-in Conditioner

What the catalogue says:
Oriflame Hair X Volume Boost Shampoo is a hard-working shampoo that changes flat, thin hair giving it more volume and bringing it back to life. By boosting the volume your hair looks and feels thicker and more healthy. It's light and adds volume from root-to-tip so it won’t weigh your hair down.
Oriflame Hair X Volume Boost Leave in Conditioner is a light, effective spray with VoluMax complex. It creates a sleek, volumised look. To Use: spray onto damp, just-washed hair and don’t rinse off. This product makes your hair look and feel beautiful - for tons of volume which brings out the true you use Hair X Volume Boost!

How it works:

Recommended for: Fine, thin, limp hair

I had long straight hair which used to turn limp within a day of shampooing. After trying an umpteen number of volumising products from various brands and then getting my long tresses chopped short in total frustration, I was recommended this product, and it has been a true blessing! It makes my ‘flat on top, wavy on the bottom’ type hair, much fuller and gives it a lift at the roots. I have been hooked onto it since April 2011 and I have no intentions of changing my shampoo or my conditioner. The shampoo is glowing white with a creamy texture. The consistency is not that thick, and you need to use more of it if you are washing oiled hair.  But one bottle can be easily used for almost 2 months, at 3 washes a week (lasts this long for me with my waist length hair). Also, the conditioner is a leave-in one, it comes in a dark lavender see through bottle, and is easy to apply – you can just spray it on half damp hair and let it dry out. That’s not all! Both the shampoo & the conditioner have a green apple aroma, which is totally irresistible. You can carry it in your vanity kit and spray the conditioner on before an important meeting etc, just to add a little zing to your hair!

Positives:

  • Delivers on its promise - gives the hair volume as well as shine
  • Is gentle – does not roughen your hair, even after repeated usage
  • Does not make hair feel or look oily and greasy
  • Flip top bottle packaging
  • No animal testing
  • Smells delicious
  • Not expensive – priced similar to other brands

Negatives:
  • Needs to be used in larger quantity when washing oiled hair

Price: Shampoo: Rs.249/-, Conditioner: Rs.298/- (both can be bought at additional discounts)

Oriflame Optimals Even Out Day Cream SPF 20

Let's know more: What causes skin pigmentation?
The most common cause of excessive pigmentation is an increased stimulation in the production of melanin due to certain hormonal changes - let's blame it on the highly stressed lives we lead , sun exposure or a combination of both. This condition, called melasma, appears as a dark, splotchy, brownish pigmentation on the face that develops slowly and fades with time.

Oriflame has come up with a product that is a tailor-made solution to the above problem!
What the catalogue says:
Effective formula enriched with Even Out whitening complex fights dark spots and hyper-pigmentation. Due to high performing formula, it reduces existing pigmentation and helps prevent the appearance of dark spots. With vitamin E and UV filter for extra protection from the photo-aging.
The Oriflame Optimals Even Out Day Cream comes in a cute 50ml glass tub with a beige-ish coloured cap. Contains:
  • Liquorice extract: Obtained from the root of Glycyrrhia Glabra Linneva, it is one of nature’s most effective skin clarifying & lightening agents, that is an anti-irritant and relaxant, and has a depigmenting effect. Used to clarify and lighten the skin. Delivers valuable soothing properties to the skin.
  • Rumex extract: Works by inhibiting the production of tyrosinase, an enzyme present in human skin that is responsible for the formation of pigmentation which causes color in skin
Recommended for: All ages. All skin types. Even oily & combination skinned people can use it without any qualms since it is non-greasy, gets easily absorbed into the skin, does not cause excessive sweating and does not lead to break-outs.

Positives:

  • Delivers what it promises – removes blemishes & dark spots and corrects pigmentation
  • Works well for all skin types
  • People without pigmentation/dark spots can also use this product to get an even skin tone
  • Light weight, non-greasy and easily absorbed into the skin
  • Makes the skin soft and supple and smoothens rough patches
  • Comes with SPF 20
  • Does not clog pores or cause breakouts
  • Since it has a creamy consistency, a pea-sized amount is enough per application, and hence can be used for a minimum of 3 months (when applied twice daily)

Negatives:

  • Needs regular usage for a longer duration to show optimum results on stubborn pigmentation
  • Has a wee bit medicinal smell, but the smell fades out soon after application
  • A tad bit overpriced for the quantity (MRP Rs.790/-) – ideally the 1st purchase should be during heavy discounts, such as the one offered in March 2012 (Offer price – Rs.474/-)
  • Contains parabens (But Oriflame is one of the few cosmetic giants that are trying to come up with products without parabens)
This product has been one of Oriflame’s best sellers since its launch!
